Woodworking Industry Conference (WIC)

This “One Industry Conference,” of which WMIA is a co-sponsor with WMMA, brings together members of both associations as well as other allied wood industry associations. WIC offers business development, networking, education, and the discussion of industry-wide issues. WMIA members, their spouses, and family members receive discounted registration rates.

International Woodworking Fair (IWF)

WMIA members receive a 20 percent discount on exhibit booth space at IWF. WMIA is a co-owner of the biennial International Woodworking Fair (IWF), the largest woodworking machinery and supply show in North America, and the second largest in the world. IWF is held even years in Atlanta, Georgia, and it is part of the Association’s mission to keep members and their customers informed about the latest advances in the international and domestic marketplace. 

Qualified Distributor Program

Qualified distributor personnel are allowed access to the exhibit floor a day before the show opens and during all exhibitor hours on show days. A block of hotel rooms within the IWF housing block is reserved just for Qualified Distributors. Distributor members can register all of their company personnel for free and receive 5 free Guest Passes to invite top customers for free registration to the show.

Training for Service Technicians

WMIA and the Wood Technology Industry Institute (WTII) launched a training program for service technicians focused on electrical and mechatronics-related issues, as well as some safety and customer service tips. Taught by Pittsburg State University mechatronics faculty, the 2-1/2-day session covered the following topics: Basic Electricity; Schematics: Circuit Devices and Symbols; Schematics: Understanding Schematics; Relays, Contractors, and Motor Starters; Circuit Protection; Troubleshooting 101; Electric Power; Induction Motors; Introduction to PLCs; HMI and SCADA Interfacing; DC, Servo, and Stepper Motors; Industrial Networks; Power Quality; and Variable Frequency Drives. WTII Boot Camp

WMIA sponsors the Wood Technology Industry Institute (WTII) Boot Camp, held twice each year at Pittsburg State University in Kansas. Boot Camp is a unique project-based program that provides an exposure level curriculum and a hands-on approach to several of the industry’s fundamental wood processing applications, and the machinery used in those manufacturing processes. The U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) represents the interests of the woodworking machinery industry before the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in the development of safety standards for woodworking machines, and the Association’s National Affairs Task Force helps keep members apprised of relevant legislative action, and advocates on the industry’s behalf on the local, state, and national level.
